sound bites, compare digital master to off vinyl record




							This is the acid test of our dub plates, and, vinyl records, quality. You can listen right now to tiny snippets of WAV audio: one from the digital master, and one from vinyl, directly comparing the two. The recording "off vinyl" is made by playing the actual vinyl record cut. It's played back on the cutting lathe's turntable, using an Acos Lustre arm with a Stanton 500 cartridge. This cartridge has a spherical tip stylus (not elliptical) and the Acos arm is totally standard with no modifications, so, as a combination it represents a pretty average turntable. We could have made them sound better still by playing back on a Linn LP12 with an elliptically tipped stylus - but that would be cheating !. Although, we do also use a Grado DJ cartridge ourselves, for quality checking. . A magnificent cartridge, with massive frequency response extension: both hi and low, and an elliptical diamond - but a little lower in output than things like the Stanton, Shure's and so on.
